This is the story of the way we think, and the way we act.
Like so many things, in real estate, thinking determines action.
If you have big confidence in your future, you tend to buy a big home. Likewise for the market. Low confidence, smaller... but where does "confidence" come from? Or lack of it?
Clearly, some of it is internal, what we bring to the game and our own "personal economy." Just as obvious, the outside economy plays a huge role. It is no accident that the economic term "Depression" is also a human condition as well.
Confidence may also arise from certain assumptions that over time have proven true. In real estate the assumption that carried greatest weight in a person's decision-making process, was that "home prices generally rise over time." Well now. Things did change in 2009, didn't they? We are real estate Brokers, and if we are to survive, this is where we need to change, shift and adapt. We must change our thinking, adapt our conversations, we must change our arguments, make new ones if we can, and be able to answer the vital question, "Is it "safe" to buy this home in Charlotte NC?" In Charlotte we have a growing city, a steady if not spectacular economy, and a lot of "natural resources", a talented and educated work force, 8 major corporate headquarters, a great airport, a major financial sector...
so we begin there.
